The mobile network operator plans to deploy 5G services at selected sites in Maputo, Matola; the central area of Nampula; downtown Nacala, Munhava, Maquinino and Chipanga neighbourhoods; Beira; and Tete.
Mozambique now has a 5G network, as Vodacom, the country's major mobile network provider, has launched it in several locations. These include Maputo, Matola, Nampula’s downtown, downtown Nacala, the Munhava, Maquinino, and Chipanga neighborhoods, as well as Beira and Tete.
This was revealed by Binda Jocker (photo), chief operating officer for Telecom Mozambique, at Huawei's extended virtual reality studio at the Mobile World Congress. The 5G network will be deployed in strategic areas in line with targets set by Mozambique's Ministry of Transport and Communications, Binda Jocker explains.
The GIP network in Mozambique is operated by DiploFoundation. Vodacom, Mozambique's major mobile network provider, has launched the first 5G network in the country and plans to set up services at a few locations including Maputo, Matola, Nampula's downtown, downtown Nacala, the Munhava, Maquinino, and Chipanga neighborhoods, as well as Beira and Tete.
The telco’s CEO, Nuno Quelhas stated that 5G would help improve the quality of life and promote the growth of the youthful population. “5G would help to expand financial inclusion in Mozambique, as the aim is to cover 75% of the adult Mozambican population by 2025 and make payments through M-Pesa available anywhere in the country,” he added.
Vodacom is enthusiastic about providing African communities with improved network connectivity and promoting integration into the global digital economy (Why: Africa). The deployment of 5G is anticipated to improve living conditions, foster the growth of the young population, and enhance financial inclusion.

Safety innovations including multi-stage fire suppression and thermal runaway prevention systems have reduced insurance premiums by 35% for industrial storage projects. New modular designs enable capacity expansion through simple system additions at just $200/kWh for incremental capacity. These innovations have improved ROI significantly, with commercial and industrial projects typically achieving payback in 3-5 years depending on local electricity rates and incentive programs.
