Finnish energy solutions provider Wärtsilä has commissioned two large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the Philippines. Universal Power Solutions, a subsidiary of vertically-integrated Philippine power company SMC Global Power, had awarded the contract to Wärtsilä in 2020.
Based on a document released by the DOE, there are three pumped-storage hydropower projects, one hydropower project, five wind projects, one coal project, and one battery energy storage system (BESS) project endorsed to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) at the start of 2025.
